Does Alopecia Affect the Mood of a Mother During Pregnancy?

Alopecia Areata is a common auto immune disease characterized by loss of hair. Although it is common for men to get bald and lose hair as they grow old, this is at times occurring in children and young adult. In some cases, Alopecia Areata can crop up in pregnant mothers.

During pregnancy, the mother compromises her immune system and the risk of getting diseases is high and very likely. One of these possible diseases is having hair loss. Although there are several causes that may be associated with Alepocia Areata, pregnancy is perhaps the most difficult stage to have this type of disease. Unlike other causes such as hereditary transfer of family genes, increased concentration of Cytokines and other external factors like too much use of shampoos with strong concentration of chemicals, alepocia during pregnancy is much serious because the mother is carrying a child in her womb. She is likewise sensitive to any weak immune system diseases.

This is perhaps the reason why some pregnant mothers with alepocia areata are quite hot tempered, moody and sometimes verbose. As a pregnant mother you shall not be affected with this situation because the disease do not actually affects your child in your womb unless the child will inherit the condition. Effects of alepocia are visible to the mother and not to the child during pregnancy. You may suffer small changes or hair loss but soon as your body adjusted to your condition you will be back to normal again.

A pregnant woman may check if alepocia areata affects her when she noticed some of these symptoms:

1. Bald patches in several parts that contain hairs. Small patches are often visible on the affected areas. They are usually small, round and soft patches. If the patches are just small there is a big possibility of it growing back even if left untreated.
2. Hair loss on other parts of your body with growing hair is also a symptom. Hairs in eyelashes, armpit and even in pubic hair may occur.
3. Total hair loss may likewise occur if you are experiencing chronic alopecia areata.
