Does Propecia Really Work for Hair Loss?

Propecia is brand used for treating hair loss in men. It is derived from another hair loss treatment called Proscar which was used popularly since 1992. Propecia has Finasteride as a main ingredient. This drug has shown astonishing results in men who has used it for two years. The have exhibited hair growth while the others have their hair loss problems completely gone. Propecia holds the record for the longest and most successful commercial treatment for hair loss. With these findings, a lot of people have come to patronize the product more. However, it must be pointed out that the product is only for men. Women are banned from using it because of the adverse effect it has on them.

A woman who cares for her hair does have a variety of hair loss treatment options to choose from but Propecia is not one of them. This is due to the fact that its main ingredient, which is known as Finasteride, has been found out to cause birth defects. If a woman could still bear a child or if she is under the age of fifty, no doctor will prescribe the medication to her, even if her hair loss problem is so severe.

There are issues that erupted concerning this prohibition. Some women see it as sexual discrimination. However, this is not what it is perceived to be. Even if a woman has no plan of bearing a child, what proof does the doctor have, that she still will not want a baby several years in the future? Also, the company which produces the drug is safeguarding against future lawsuits that may be filed if a birth defect happens to a child due to the use of Propecia. However, the study showed that the drug is dangerous only to male fetuses as it was shown to affect the male genitals.

For men who are taking Propecia, be advised that it is effective only for balding crowns. The drug has been observed not to have any effects on receding hairlines. Propecia is widely sold in various drug stores so should you decide to use it for your hair loss, you can easily get one.
